Your role

As a Laboratory & Synchrotron Technician, you will contribute to the smooth and efficient operations of our laboratory and synchrotron activities. You will be responsible for handling and preparing samples in the laboratory and will regularly participate in X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) measurements at synchrotron facilities in Europe, for both customer projects and R&D experiments. Your contribution will be instrumental to the company’s success and growth.

Your specific tasks

  • Preparation of samples for XRPD, SAXS and complementary analytical techniques, including:
  1. Loading powder samples into thin glass capillaries under controlled conditions, including within a glovebox.
  2. Accurate weighing of powdered materials.
  3. Preparation of microliter-scale liquid samples through accurate pipetting and mixing of various components. 
  • Regular participation (1-2 times/month) in data collection sessions (beamtime) at various synchrotron facilities in Switzerland and abroad, primarily in Europe.
  • Handling, storage and shipment of samples in compliance with operating procedures, including the completion of all related documentation.
  • Professional planning and management of beamtime logistics for the Excelsus team.
  • Development of innovative technical solutions for specific sample formats and some customized experiments.

Your profile

Mandatory

  • BSc (minimum) or MSc (preferred) in chemistry, life-sciences, engineering or equivalent, completed with at least 3 years of practical laboratory experience.
  • Strong understanding and experience of laboratory safety practices.
  • Ability to work rigorously and autonomously, performing tasks with a very high degree of accuracy and reliability, and detecting deviations and inconsistencies, as demonstrated by previous experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work autonomously and to prioritize tasks in order to meet internal and external deadlines, as demonstrated by previous experience.
  • Strong customer-orientation mindset, as demonstrated by previous experience.
  • Willingness to travel at least 1-2 times a month in Europe (typically for 2-3-day sessions).
  • Excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to manage and write technical documents.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Eagerness to work in a dynamic start-up environment.

Valued

  • Experience with XRPD and SAXS techniques, using laboratory instruments or, ideally, synchrotron beamlines.
  • Practical experience in a (bio)pharmaceutical company, working with Standard Operating Procedures under GMP/GLP regulations or in an ISO-certified environment.
  • Very good knowledge of German (spoken and written).
  • Experience with laboratory and data management systems.
  • Passion for developing scientific and technical solutions to address practical challenges in a laboratory environment.
