The IT team of the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is looking for an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer to drive FMI’s transition to a modern hybrid cloud architecture.
The FMI IT team supports 20 scientific research groups and multiple technology platforms. Our ability to generate insights from large-scale experimental data depends on having reliable and scalable computing platforms. To keep up with the needs of high-impact biomedical research, we are transforming from traditional on-premises infrastructure into hybrid cloud architecture.
In this role, you will
- Plan and carry out the migration of applications and data to modern on-premises and cloud platforms.
- Design and implement integrations between on-premises Linux systems and AWS cloud services.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and operations, building on and evolving our use of Ansible.
- Improve platform reliability, performance, and cost efficiency throughout and after the migration.
About you
- A university degree in IT, computer science or a related field, or equivalent proven professional experience.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in cloud architecture, cloud operations, cloud systems administration, or a closely related area.
- Proven experience designing, deploying, and monitoring services on AWS.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Expertise in Linux system administration, automation, configuration management and Infrastructure as Code, with a solid understanding of cloud networking and IT security.
- Fluency in English.
- AWS certifications would be considered an advantage.
What we offer
- A leading role in defining FMI’s cloud strategy, designing the target platform architecture, and guiding a major infrastructure transformation.
- A dynamic, international, and multidisciplinary environment that values diversity and inclusion.
- An initial three-year contract, with the intention of building lasting cloud capabilities and the possibility of a permanent position.
- A competitive compensation and benefits package.
